Veneers for Beautiful Teeth: Six Facts You Should Know.

Veneers for Beautiful Teeth: Six Facts You Should Know.

Many people want beautiful, straight and bright teeth. If small blemishes need to be corrected, veneers can be a possible option. And here Next Smile provides answers to six questions that are often asked by patients.

  1. What is a veneer?
A veneer is a casing that is attached to the surface of the tooth that is made from material such as porcelain. The aim of veneers is to improve the shape and color of the front teeth aesthetically. Veneer treatment is always carried out by the dentist. In close cooperation with the dentist, a dental technician plans the veneers in the dental laboratory. The design is individually adapted to the patient in terms of shape and color. Beautiful, functional and natural is the motto of modern dentistry.
  2. What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?
With a veneer, the dentist usually grinds a little bit of the healthy tooth – on some occasions, this isn’t necessary. While the crown encompasses the entire tooth or the tooth stump, a veneer is only glued onto the tooth from the front; durable and stable. Added to that, although veneers are wafer-thin, an impressive effect can be achieved. The result is even, attractive and natural-looking teeth.
  3. Which applications are veneers ideal for?
The areas of application of veneers are diverse. Basically, the dentist advises on the indications. Usually these are aesthetic treatments. A possible application example is a strong discoloration of the teeth, which cannot be removed by bleaching. In addition, slight tooth misalignments (crooked teeth, gaps in the row of teeth) can be corrected with veneers.
  4. What materials are veneers made of?
Veneers generally consist of tooth-colored all-ceramic material; biocompatible and resistant to discoloration. For example, glass ceramics, feldspar, leucite ceramics or more recently, translucent zirconium oxides are used. There is also the option of fabricating composite veneers.
  5. Do veneers damage natural teeth?
When veneers are fitted, the natural, healthy tooth substance hardly needs to be ground, or not at all. When grinding is necessary, the dentist acts according to minimally invasive (gentle) principles. For the veneers, Duo Dental Zahntechnik only uses biocompatible materials that do not damage teeth or gums. This way, a beautiful smile is permanently preserved.
  6. How are the veneers attached to the tooth?
The veneers made by the dental laboratory are permanently glued to the tooth at the dental practice using a modern adhesive technology.
